Tach hook-up

Hello to all,
I would like to hook-up a tach on the dash of my 1986 6.9 4x4, can someone guide me as to where I need to wire it to get the electrical impulse ?

Thanks,

Magic

The impulse is taken from the tower. there is a sensor that is inserted into the tower and counts the teeth on the injection pump drive gear. If you stand in front of a truck with a tach hookup it will be about 11 oclock position on the tower. i dont know for sure if all the trucks came with the wiring from there to the cabin.

I just hooked mine up to a hot wire, negetive side of the coil and light terminal. It's working fine.

badlee,
oil burners dont have a coil. the tack needs a sensor to count teeth on the pump drive or the injection pulses on a pressure line.
my 2 cents
