Future rust prevention.

My truck has some light surface rust at this point. I was doing some research on rust prevention and I think I have come up with a good plan. The plan is to use rustolium undercoating on the frame and fluidfilm on everything else. I will probably end up using the fluid film over top of the undercoating on the frame as well. I'll be doing this stuff this fall.

My question. Anyone ever use any of these products?

Note: I have used rustolium bed liner with perfect results.

I'm curious about this as well. I just bought an '03 F250 SD and it's pretty nice but you can see some bubbles under the paint here and there.

Gotcha. Yeah the fluid film seems to be a very easy way of preventing future rust. I'm still curious as to how long it sticks around.

Good stuff. I'll probably be doing something like this with mine too in the near future. I don't plan on getting rid of my truck anytime soon, so I wanna keep her looking somewhat decent.

Rust Converter

I'm new to the group yesterday and am waiting for an ordered 250 XLT to show up.

Had a lot of luck using Corroseal. First saw it used in a Canadian shipyard. For frames and underneath vehicles you can spray it on and it converts the rust to a hard black surface ready for primer or a Rustolyum type paint. You have to remove the thick flake rust but otherwise it really converts the rust to a good paint-able surface. Cover up well as it stains your skin.

Lots of stuff about Corroseal on the web

Welcome to FTE! Thanks for your imput! I'll look into applying some corroseal before the undercoating on my frame.

Fluid film for sure.... You can brush it on, spray can, or they sell an "undercoating" system to spray on the stuff. Seems to last pretty well for me. But I spray it on my rusty Taurus. My truck hibernates during the winter so I can avoid the rust. But I still spray all the spots like tailgate, door bottoms and whatever else I feel like doing on the truck. Great stuff

Get it done asap or it'll get worse....very fast. My 06 had the bedsides replaced under warranty because I found some bubbles on the top of the fender and when Ford looked into it there was MAJOR rot.

The majority of folks who buy Fluid Film from us for this purpose apply the bulk via undercoating gun or airless spray gun. The rattle cans are good for touch-up, plows, hitches, etc.

Myexperience has been heavier rather than lighter application with periodic reapplication in areas that get heavy spray works best. Fluid Film stays put on a molecular level even if you can't see it.

Undercoating or the paints (which are essentially epoxies) are good in combination with Fluid Film.

One thought about undercoating, I have had several of my fleet done by a local undercoat franchise because it was worth $200 not to trash my shop.

Go to Fluid Film® | Corrosion Preventative, Lubricant and Rust Inhibitor. I have heard that FTE is a valid discount code at one of these.

My truck has some lift to it. When you stand next to it, you can clearly see the frame. Kinda looks crappy with light surface rust in random patches. Is like to use some flat black undercoating in there after which applying the fluid film this fall. Think it will work out nicely. I'll probably just lay under my truck on the grass and spray the undrcoating.

go to a paint or hardware store and buy a Tyvek suit before you do..........Higdon's Law applies here:

I hear ya. I'll be using a spray can of undercoating underneith the truck. Old cloths will be a must.
What's that suit cost. I might consider it. Don't get me wrong. I appreciate the advice for sure.
