Just wondering if anyone has had the inner and outer front axle seals crap out on them prematurely? I have a 01 F250 cc, 7.3 with 40k, and the inner and outer seals on the front axle are shot. Not damaged or missing, but just floating in the breeze on the axle. I have been having problems with the esof, and one of my hubs would not unlock (while in the auto position, transfer case in 2wd) until I fiddled with it a bit. Thats when I noticed the seals. Maybe this has something to do with it?
Brought it to the dealer to see what they could do. I mean it's a few thousand miles out of warranty, but c'mon. They seemed like they were going to take care of me at first, but now I am told I have to sit down with the manager and discuss the service of the truck. To date, I have done all the service myself. I do have the reciepts for the filters, oil, etc, and noted the dates of the oil and filter changes. I am wondering where the dealer is going with this. I read throuht the scheduled maintenance booklet, and nothing in there deals with inspection of the front axle seals or similar. Dunno, I just wonder what chaning the oil has to do with front axle seals failing.
One of the front seals got replaced under warranty because it caused a godawful screeching sound when I engaged 4x4. I was also wanting them to fix my pulsing brakes, which they didn't want to do under warranty. Mind you that my pads were not worn hardly at all, so it should have been a warranty issue. The service manager checked the same service history thing. From talking to him, what it amounted to was that they'll take care of you if you spend lots of money having your truck serviced by them. Since I do all my own maintenance, they weren't willing to do much for me unless it was clearly a warranty issue. I can tell you that I won't be seeing them if I do need a dealer for service!
