Patio project

The newest project on the homestead. Added more concrete, then stained all of it.

Thanks.

We are thinking curved area off of center with block bench and fire pit.

But, a pergola will be next.

But, we just do little bits at a time.

Could be an ad for Better Homes & Gardens!

That's a nice finish---very nice effect.

That's a woman's touch with the furniture right? Is there a huge gas grill anywhere near by??!!

Thanks for the compliment.

We were wanting patio furniture for our other home, and I stumbled into Costco one day. This stuff is great. Looks good after 6-7 years doesn't it?

There is a gas grill is in the picture. It gets used for sure. Not as good as the setup we did on our other patio. The grill I plumbed into the Natural Gas line. And it's built in.

(And this one did make it on to the Architect's website!)

My wife and I like doing projects! (One reason we have a CC long Bed!)

Happy Father's Day everyone!

Ya'll did great! It looks fantastic. I've toyed with the idea of using stains on our back yard concrete patio, but wasnt sure how long it would last in this tough oklahoma weather?

Looks great

Why did you go with concrete over pavers again?

Just wondering as I am getting a paver patio installed next week and we went round and round over which one to go with.

And I cant show my wife the pics of the 6-7 year old furniture either. She wanted tight woven wicker, I wanted Teak, we ended up with cast...lol

We bought this house. It had the center section pad already here. We thought, why not place the pavers right on top of the concrete and extend the pavers on out to the sides from there? Then I thought, there is going to be settling on the transfer from concrete to dirt, and I didn't want the pavers to compress lower than the concrete.

Then we thought, tear out the pad, and do all pavers. Too much work for this old couple.

So, we ended up pouring more concrete and then found the staining idea. Liked what we saw, and decided to go for it!

So, we poured the 2 sections. One was 6 X 10 and the other is 8 X 10.

Then had to strip the old sealant off the original pad, which was a pain. But managed to get 99% of it off. ( we tried 2 different fluids, and 1 was $70 per gallon.)

Then we taped off the outside border and went to staining.

The over all cost for the project was around $650. The cost of pavers plus all the extra work would have put us way above $1000.

If there is ever going to be a "next" house, we will be looking at doing stamped concrete. And then staining.

We will probably end up back at the house with the pavers anyway!!!

Acid stain will last a long time from what I understand. The real key is care. A high quality sealer every couple years should keep it looking great. ( I don't know enough about sealants to recommend which is best)

Just like we stain our fences every 2 years to keep it looking fresh.

Houses are just like cars and trucks. Yearly maintenance or bi-annual maintenance is key to keeping a House looking great for years.

The key to pavers is the packing of the base dirt. The better packed, the better they stay. A weighted umbrella stand will sink the pavers over time!!! So, rotate the patio furniture every once in a while, or don't put much weight in the umbrella stand.

As for the furniture, this is "resin" wicker, and I know why you didn't show her the pics!!!!!!!!

It looks great. We are looking for our next house now. Our old one finally sold. We are watching foreclosure auctions for a good fixer upper. My wife & I remodeled our last home & made 40 k from our labor in today's market..I've spent my life building homes. Its a buyers market & I have the cash to buy without a loan. I will add a covered deck on it if it doesn't have one. Decks are not expensive & add a lot to a home We feed birds & wildlife & really like to set outside & watch them.

Thanks!

And good luck with your next project. Working together as a team sounds like. If you have the time to spend in the foreclosure market, a person can find some good deals. And paying for it out right takes lenders out of the loop. Which we like a lot.
