Um, well i'm not sure how much the general labor charge is for a quality shop near you but at the dealership i worked at it was $90/hour for me as an employee then something like $100 for the supplies BUT i can't remember fully. You can probably call in and get a quote over the phone.
Hard to believe that you are even "thinking" about fixing an A/C if you're living in the Southeast! Here in Florida we place more importance in the A/C than we do tires and gas. ;-)

Heat dont bother me much.. To me AC makea people more...how can I put it...their bodies wont accept heat as muc. Idk. Lol. Im thinkin about getting it fixed cause i know some of my passengers wants it and then when it rains...on top of it being humind then heat added to it and u have to roll up windows and heat comin from the engine and trans..it geta toasty but i usually leave the window open some still. Im just thinkin if my grandmother rides with me or any other gal they would want it.
Orifice tube is located in the lower hard line coming out of the HVAC box, there's a spring lock on the tube, when the tube is opened the orifice tube is inside of there.
It's not my money to spend but the price sounds very reasonable for a shop to do the work, be sure that they replace the receiver/dryer as well, if the old system has been dry for any amount of time it needs to be replaced.
Eh, it ain't nothing. But I plan to go tomorrow and get the AC filled...probably won't use it much but oh well..won't hear a nagging gal when I turn it on hopefully. Also will get my front molding vinyl floor covering too.
