twosfamily, can you use that KD3000 primer on top of another epoxy primer? I already shot my cab with nason's (dupont) ful-poxy. I was very pleased with the application but I'd really like to use a HOK BC/CC.

If I apply the KD3000 primer on top of the ful-poxy and then use HOK products for the rest of the project will that work?

Thanks!

I would think you might want to call the manufacturer to see what they say about the compatibility of their product with another. Some play well with others, and some don't.

Thanks Grubbworm. I called HOK and they said there wouldn't be an issue as long as my previous primer coat is dry.

I think I'll go ahead with the HOK system but if anyone else can offer their 2 cents I'm all ears.

You might check out this manufacturer too, I'm using all of their product on my truck build. They are a local company with excellent customer service and free shipping. I've ordered product from them before and it came the next day. When you call them you can talk with the owner about their product and any issues or questions you might have.

They also have an excellent forum.

They only have a few colors that I know of, Black, Red, White, and maybe Silver right now. You should probably call Barry (the owner) @ 1-706-781-2220, he will be more than happy to help you. My truck was originally black, so I am going back with black. Here are a few threads on their forum about some of their base paint products.

SPI Red Base coat
New products available
2000 Series Basecoat Tech Sheet
SPI Flat Black Single Stage
Black Basecoat
New 2012-2013 Tech Manuals
4200 Single Stage Tech Sheet
White, Red and Black Basecoat..
Black base
Pricing

I hope this helps somewhat.

I'll definitely get some more pictures uploaded. If you get a chance check out my build thread where I have my current progress. I updated it last night.

Sorry for dropping off this thread. I tend to hang out in the Missouri BS thread for the month. I'll see if I can upload some pics of the convertible to the site.

Unlike many, I like to carry my candies, flakes and pearls with Universal Clear, not with intercoat clears. I like the way the effects sit in clear much better then the intercoats. The only thing that I have used that comes close to carrying the same way is HOK Shimrin 2 S2-00 Trans Nebulae. It carries very nice. But with SPI, I never worry about film build.

I am not on the other forums much, I have been just browsing around them. There seems to be a lot of good information on them also.

I'm on the SPI User Forums
as Grubbworm. And you're right, there is much good information on there. Are either of you on the SPI forum? And, if so, what is your name on there? Cyclops, I'm looking forward to those pictures.
