Question pcm

Hi, all.

I have a question about what pcm to get, but 1st some back ground
I have a 1195 F350 7.3 PSD with 226,000.+ miles.

I took her in to a local shop that i trust and they scanned codes for me.
Came up with PO 603 605 270 276 271 277 1264 1266. Cleared the codes and ran it again and got PO605 only. Awhile ago i replaced the wiring harness. They said that flashing the pcm might fix the problem, but they couldn't do it.
Said i would have to take it to ford. So i did.

Ford hooked their scanner up and it said that it was hooked to an ESCORT!!
So they could not read it. Tried another scanner but still couldn't get the numbers for the PCM.

They told me I should get a new or remanufactured one.
Ok, I agree, but, I went on line to Rock Auto, they have good prices,
There are a bunch of them. How do I know which one is what i need?

My truck is running fairly good for now.

Please Help and Thanks in Advance

Shannon

What makes you think that the PCM is bad? Is it just because the dealer can't read it? The dealer most likely doesn't know what they're doing. It is a pretty common problem with these trucks. The service department doesn't have anyone who has any training or experience on these trucks, and they're just reading steps from the service manual. It is my understanding that the PO605 code can come from having the batteries disconnected, or the batteries being weak. The other codes could all be linked to the bad wiring harnesses, and having the battery unhooked. Someone else will confirm or deny that for me though.

Does the truck run okay now?

I was told that that's what the PO605 code meant.? The guys at the non ford shop thought it could possibly be flashed

Someone else can confirm this for me, but I don't think the PO605 code is anything you need to be concerned about. If the truck runs alright, run it! (Oh, and don't take it back to that Ford dealer.... they don't know a PSD from LSD...)

OK, That's what I'll do. One good thing about it.. Neither place charged me anything! I'm not real impressed with this place any way. Got a thermostat from them and it stuck shut before i was 5 miles from home. They told me Ma'am there has to be something else wrong, I've never had one of our thermostats malfunction Any way I won't go into what i told them as i'm setting on the side of the road waiting for my truck to cool down

Thank you for your advice. I will take it.
and i'm sure i will be back. I'm not much of a mechanic but I LOVE MY TRUCK. AND i'M LEARNING.

THANKS AGAIN

Hey that's the boat we are all in! We are hear to learn from each other and share what we have learned ourselves. It is sad, but the Ford dealer is about the last place I would take my truck to have it worked on. They just don't know anything about these trucks. There is one dealer here locally that has a tech that specializes in the 7.3s and if I had to take it somewhere I would consider taking it there, but I am hoping never to have to do that. So far there isn't anything I have run into that me and FTE can't do. DIY all the way!

Question messed up again!

Hi, I'm back again.Me and my 95-7.3-4x4-4 door 226,000 miles

I went to town today, All the way in ran great. Pulled the hills coming up from the river to Globe just fine.

On the way home CIL COMES ON, GOES INTO LIMP MODE. I put it in neutral, rev to about 3 grand let off, CIL goes off put in gear and go on down the road. Had to do it twice in town and twice out on the highway 60 with the cruise set. After that ran normal the rest of the way home.

Please help again!!

Go back to you buddy that scanned the codes (not the dealership) and have him pull the codes again. Post the codes up here and we can help you figure out what is going on. When the CEL came on, did the truck still run okay?

it looses power the rpms and speed start dropping like I've taken my foot off the throttle. the only way to get it back up is to put it in neutral and rev it up or it will die. If it dies, i have to turn the key off wait for glow plug to go out and it starts back up.
