Air Tank

I found this on cl, I think it's from a semi and a little larger than I thought. I was thinking of using it for an on board air tank. It measures about 10in. diameter and and about 56in. long. Originally thinking I could mount it under the truck by the frame, but it doesn't look like it would fit. Has anyone used something like this?

That doesn't look much different than Tim's air tank he has for his york air. I'm not sure on the size of his off hand though. I'm going to use a couple smaller tanks hooked together.

Oh that's WAY more than 9 gallons. The walkabout tank I use to air up tires is 7 gallons, and it's about that diameter (a little bigger) and only about 1/3 the length. So that puppy is prob. 24-25 gallons.

By my calculations that tank is about 4400 Cubic inches or approximately 19 gallons. That's a big one for sure! That would work great provided it has time to get aired up and you can find a place to install it!

Well I didn't hear anyone laughing very loud on the tank issue. The picture is a bit of a optical illusion, it doesn't look possible but the tank will actually fit in the tool box, and that might be where I'll have to put it.
My math skills are lacking significantly (if you don't use it you loose it) but I found this calculator using google chrome. Link Generator the measurements I used are just a close guesstimate but it calculates to 19.4 (congrats Nate)
I will take another pic when I put it in the box, I think I might still have enough room to make it work for me.

I was worried about it being a little overkill when I bought it, then when I put it under the truck to see where I could fit it I was disappointed. I didn't think of the tool box, just thought it would be to big for that too, and take up to much usable storage space, but it's actually a very good fit and leaves enough room for most of my storage needs. I should have bought the other one the guy had 25 was a good price now that I can make it fit. Have to keep my eyes open for a air horn, always thought that would be fun, but I didn't think on board air would be in my future.

Hey Rich, what kinda compressor are you gonna use to air that thing up? I wanna find a decent belt driven. I've got about a 9 gal. tank but don't want to mount it until I get that compressor.

I'm itchin' to do it now Tom. What compressor are you running now? I really wanna be able to fill up a tire (315), run an impact wrench, and do air horns (later though).

Gus, I'm not sure what I'll do for a compressor. I am open for any suggestions though.

Tom, I'll get it mounted pretty soon. I'm starting to get a little more motivated, I've been on a driving restriction for about 8 mos. now (a medical condition) if I stay good I will be good to go this Friday. What are you doing for a compressor?

That size tank is going to at least require an engine driven or an Oasis. You could always run 4 smaller Viair's but that is going to get real pricey.

If you have the room under the hood a York 210 would probably be your best bet.

It's funny you say that Nate! I've got one I had on my SD. I'm getting ready to put it on my truck. As a matter of fact, I was just thinking a little while ago about doing it this evening! I used a portable 7 gallon tank and put it in my tool box. I'd just fill it up with the air hose every couple days. Works ok just for the horn. That thing is stupid LOUD! I have fun with it!

i have a set of viair 480's set for 150 lb shutoff.
takes around 4-5 minutes to fill the three tanks from empty.
i can remove and reinstall an 8 lug tire with no problems running an ingersol rand 1/2 drive impact gun..
