Here's one for you. Every now and then I can be driving down the road and out if the corner of my eye ill start seeing a light shining at me. Ill look over and see my glove box light on and shining through the crack. I can open it and shut it and it won't go off. Turn the truck off and it goes off. Turn it back on and it'll stay off.
Shouldn't be dependent on the key at all. IIRC, that's a ground switch; maybe there's something in the glove box jamming up in there and grounding it out...
I've seen mine do that "shine through the crack" thing...usually right before it unexpectedly slams open and scares the S$%@ out of me and almost makes me wreck! I can't figure it out myself. Sorry - no help, but I can relate to your issue. I just shut mine with a little force (from the adrenaline rush I get from almost wrecking) and it goes a way. Luckily it has never caused my batteries to go dead...knock on wood.
After 16 years, my faithful 250 has'nt revealed that poltergeist yet! I ould imagine after all these years the plunger has loosened up and if not the interbal contacts are oxidized. The ONLY contact cleaner I ever use is DeOxit. Utterly fantastic! Oxidation disappears in a microsecond before your very eyes. Find a spot and give it a shot with the needle nozzle and work it in 'n out. Maybe that'll do it.
Is your truck an XL trim level, José? That light might be part of the XLT package. Does your truck have the high-falutin' courtesy lights in the doors?
Well I found out that the switch works just fine. As long as it's pressed more then half way in. Any further then that and its kinda flaky. Its funny watching a bulb fade in and out depending on how much you press in on the switch.
Now I just gotta see if there is any adjustment on the unit to slide it out some.
I didn't know it at the time, but the dash all around the bracket had broken and how that thing was staying put is beyond me, but it was... until one day when it to slammed open and I almost crossed four lanes of traffic (dark outside, light came on, %^$& myself). Had to epoxy mine in place. Haven't put the bulb back in to see about that "adjustment" part though. Hope I placed it right.

Its XLT, there are an hourometer (spl?) in my glove box, maybe it is in its place or is hiden it. IDK, I have to check it.
Yes it has the courtesy lights in the doors.

Hour meter? Nice! Must be aftermarket, though, as I've never seen a reference to it in the owner's manual or FSM.
