I just swapped a 5.0 from a 87 Cougar into my 66 , which is speed density, and I am just as happy as can be with it. I went from a 170 to this, so obviously a big difference. I have been driving it for two months now, and I just love being able to turn the key and go. Completely reliable. The nice thing is that I got this car, which was driveable but wrecked, for only $300. A used 5.0 HO in my area goes for $500 to $1000 for just the engine! I used a generic low pressure fuel pump for my pusher, and the stock inline fuel pump for a 86 F150 with a EFI 302. For the return lines, I used a tank from a 74 that had emmission ports and just used one of them for the return. Works fine.
Thanks for all your input...I bought the 86 Mercury motor and A4OD trans for 600. Trans was rebuilt with a firm shift kit and the motor needs nothing (except an AC pump, the previous owner kept it) I go pick it up Memorial Day weekend.
I'll post pictures on the site when I get home.
