what are the best ways to increase the gas milage in my bronco. now im getting about 13 which is better since i rebuilt the trans but can i get more without losing power?
Best way is to get more air in, and more air out. Throw in a high flow air filter, and get some headers and high flow exhaust behind it. I saw in a different post about putting on bigger tires. That is not gonna help the overall mileage theory. Youre going to have more rolling mass, as well as air drag. What are your plans for this truck??
i have a 5.8 and 13 is what i get all stock. but i have to drive it very gentle to get that
. i try to accelerate very easy and never turn the engine more than 2000 rpm's. also i glide up to traffic lights. yeah you dont want to get behind me but i get to drive the bronco longer on my way to and from work. if you dont already drive like that try it for a tankfull and youll probably get 14.5 to 15 mpg with that 5.0. let me know how you make out if you try this.
I also got 13 -14 stock( modifications done) 1992 351 170000miles k and n fipk, super chip,-msd6a box, msd blastercoil, ,new billet distributor new plugs and wires9.9 mm, i am looking at driving 55-60 15.8. Best ive seen so far TR
I drive around pretty quikly, so I am getting around 10-11, and if I ease on the throttle I will get 13!!
all I have to say is that gas is getting to be a huge expense to me!
If you are looking for "good mileage" try a Bronco II.......lol
Just resign yourself to the fact that you have a man's vehicle.....
I think the piece of mind that we have driving one of the toughest *******s on the road is a good enough trade off.......lol
Whoa,
On my over-hauled 302 I get 7.63 miles to the gallon!
Do you guys think I have a problem here? Before I rebuilt it I got around 10 I think. Anyone think I might be missing something here or any reason the truck could be guzzling the gas?
Thanks!
Ryan
P.S. Nothing has been changed to the truck during the gas mileage change (IE Tires, gears ect).
If your mileage changed that much after a rebuild then I would tend to say something is wrong with the engine. But first I would check the simple things. Timing has a dramatic effect on MPGs so make sure it is right or even a little advanced. I run 13 degrees base. Check to make sure a brake isn't hanging up, especially if you set the parking brake while working on it. Check and make sure your exhaust gasket is lined up straight so it isn't restricting the flow into the manifolds. If it is not any of these, do a compression check and see what is happening.
1) My timing is a little off right now, I get a little bit of pinging but if I lower the timing anymore then I lose horse power.
2) My Brakes are fine and not rubbing at all.
3) And My Exhaust puts all other exhaust to shame, the headers are cracked its leaking all over the place and I don't even think the muffler is even attached!
Do you think either of the two might have somthing to do with my wonderful 7 mpg? I made previous posts about my oil preasure (after it gets warm the gauge goes WAY down). I am not sure if that has anything to do with it.
Hi all
I just came across this site.
I've got a 1982 bronco with a 351 cleveland with the 3 speed C4(this is the aussie cleveland with the carter 4 barrel carb). I'm getting about 15mpg on a trip and 11mpg going to work. Petrol is $A4.30 ($US2.79) a gallon. Dont feel sorry for me, i feel sorry enough for myself!
Just bought a 1995 5.8L EB Bronco and am using it to pull a 5500 lb. travel trailer. Engine has 120,000 miles on it. I get 8 mpg while towing at 60 mph, and not towing I nudge 15 mpg. Have switched to burning premium unleaded and have realized a slight improvement as well as losing the knock while towing and going up a grade. Plan to put headers and low restriction dual exhaust system on in future.
Man I must be lucky I get 17 MPG average on my 95 with a 5.0 (67,000 miles) and an automatic with 31 inch 11.5 tires and my engine and exhaust are bone stock (for the time being till extra $$$).
