do the AMP steps come down lower than the stock ones? My wife hates that first step up on the 4x4..

They don't publish that measurement as all trucks sit at a little different height. However, they do say from the step to the door sill is 13.5". So whatever your current measurement is, will tell you if they sit lower or higher than your current step.
POWERSTEP
download the "drops" page to see where I got the 13.5" dimension. I don't have the steps.

*edit* I just checked mine and the drop for the stock Ford (chrome package) boards is 10.5". So the AMP boards should extend down 3" lower than the Ford ones, but it will yield a 3" taller step into the cab from the AMP Power step.

How does the 3M film look once installed? I'm considering doing the film as well.

The 3M is just about invisible. I have it down the sides and a 12" strip across the hood. About the only time you can see it is when I've been down a real dusty back road, the dust stands out.
