So last year my son was reading Farenheit 451. The class assignment was to make a short video of a scene or passage from the book.
He invites several of his classmates over, and comes to me: "Dad, we need a flamethrower." All matter-of-fact like....
So, I gathered a 1" PVC pipe about 24" long, satin black paint, an upside-down garden spray wired to his belt, and a can of WD-40 and away we went.
I did the flame shots, just my hands and arms--I told the boys that if I burned to death, it would be less trouble than if any of them were hurt.
So this thing makes a nasty ball of flame, and my son narrates over the top of it with the opening line from the book: "It became a pleasure to burn...". God, I thought this would be so sinister and shocking so as to cause gasps at the school.
My son said the teacher laughed.
He got a good grade on the video.
Maybe I'll read the book now to honor the memory of a great author.
