Your mechanic is correct. That's what I was saying about the air handler.

If he's comfortable cutting and drilling the firewall, go with the OEM system in the cab and on the firewall. Use a Parallel flow condenser and a modern compressor out under the hood with R134a.
I "think' there is a kit available to mount a Sanden compressor to the York bracket.

I think it will need a custom mount due to the power steering pump he is putting in. I'll take a look though thanks! And is ur ride really an e8?

No. You'll need the Factory Heater/AC harness from the donor truck.

Oh darn. That harness was all cut up can I get a new one anywhere?

Also! My mechanic has no interest in helping me install the factory air, so is there somewhere I can get a diagram on how to hook it all up and a list of parts like hoses and what not? I'm not very happy that he doesn't wana do the air now

ok so got another one for yall. The factory A/C might be a little to much for me to handle but not sure yet. But if i have to go with aftermarket, this unit in the link is part of the set for our 73-79 trucks. It gives the CFM's and BTU's for the system and was wondering if anyone can tell me if this is good or bad as in the # of CFM's it cranks etc etc...

ID-260 Heat Air Defrost Indash Unit - Indash Evaporator Units

It also says it can be adapted to use vacume or cable controls which means i can use the vacume controls i have out of a parts truck That way my control panel says "A/C" and i dont have top use the factory just heat panel.

Also is a 14 x 20 Condenser big enough? Thats what the kit comes with..

So does anyone have this kit installed? Is it worth a grand? Does it get cold enough to frezze you out of the truck on a 100 degree day?

There's a couple of more threads going on here with discussion about that unit. It sounds like it may be a good one,it's the one i am interested in finding more about.

Ok I'm sitting here laughing about this. So many people are curious about this system yet I can't find one person who has done it haha. I'm tempted to email the company and ask for the email of someone who has used it. Lol

Maybe you missed it but in post #19 I told you about one that says he has it in his truck. But I haven't heard from him any more. His avatar name is "crsweet78" ,I guess you could do a search on that name and get in touch with him. I thought he might post again since it's been brought up a few times since he made the comment it was in his truck.

Oh I read it. I believe he has vintage air. They make great stuff but no kit for our trucks that are almost a drop in like nostalgic air. :P

Rob,

This kit was designed in the 1970's to fit the ford truck and keep the
factory heater box. The kit will blow very cold but you HAVE to
insulate the truck. If you have a bare metal firewall the a/c unit
will fight with the heat coming in the through the firewall and not
cool as good. Tne vent temperature will get down to 35 if you install
it correctly.
I emailed them and this was there reply.

Which kit are you referring to? Nostalgic air? Or. Vintage air..... Now nostalgic air makes two kits for our trucks, one replaces the heater and defrost and the other one lets you keep factory heat and defrost and just provides Ac.

I am very interested in putting this in my new truck, too. I am not sure yet whether I will need to replace defrost and heat. I am interested in an answer to SuperDuty's question. Insulating the cab shouldn't be too hard.
