Talking Exhaust Manifold Problems

Hello All,

We just purchased a very nice 86 Ford F250 with the
dreaded 460 V8.

We needed something to pull a camper with and while
the 250 is overkill, we weren't finding much to chose from
for under $10K with at least a 351 in it.

Most of the 90-97's with 351s were beat and the lots/owners
wanted too much for them.

The 86 we bought is in excellent condition, just thirsty!

One of the problems this truck has is the dreaded cracked
exhaust manifold.

I've seen some aftermarket manifolds that claim to have
fixed the "weak" spots in the manifold... anyone tried any
of the aftermarket manifolds?

Thanks!
Scott

Don't know much about the exhaust manifold, although I do have an '81 with the thirsty 460.

What I might suggest is that you repost the question with the subject heading relating to the manifold cracking, rather than the generic "Newbie here". I think you would get more views that way.

Rather than stick with the manifolds, why don't you replace them with headers? You can get them rather inexpensively and you might even see a .000001% fuel mileage gain. Although my experience with a 460 is that they get 8 mpg empty, loaded, up hill, down hill, running, resting....

Yeah, I thought about that after I hit the "send" button!

Then I thought I'd make a second post, but I thought I'd
let it ride...

Then an administrator came along and changed it.

Please note : You have 10 minutes to change the title & You have 60 Minutes to use the EDIT instead of making another Post

Edit:

I have been thinking pretty hard about headers (thought
I smelled something burning!), but I don't know how much
of the emissions I can get rid of as well to go with headers.

Being that this is an 86 250, it is catalytic converter exempt,
so true duals could be in order as well.

The 460s only get about 8mpg??? I was thinking they'd
get at least 12mpg???

Thanks!
Scott

I'm lucky to get 13mpg with my 84 F150 300 I6, we won't even talk about the 77!
