steering box

I own a 96 f150 4x4 and the steering box is a little worn. I would like to adjust it but do not want to go thru the process that the manual calls for(draining entire system and so on.Can I just adjust the box without draining the entire steering system.

Yep, just loosen the nut on top of the box, turn the screw down about 1/4 turn (not much), snug the nut and go for a drive. If it doesn't return to center you've gone too far.
