I just put some wider rims and tires on my truck and read that a set of dual steering stabilizers will help cut down on ball joint/front end wear. I don't have any bump steer or anything just want them as a preventative measure.

My question is, will the dual stabilizers make my steering wheel harder to turn? I'm sure my 120 lb. rims and tires are putting plenty of stress on the pump already. I can still turn the wheel easily when rolling at 1 or 2 mph and don't want to lose that. What do you guys think?

 

I run ten inch wide wheels and 35s and have removed my duel stabilizers that I had previously installed. Made it easier for me to turn at low speeds and I don't have any problems with steering. Bapending money on dual stabilizers was a waste when I upgraded from single.

 

i went from the stock one too a skyjacker dual kit on my 2004 and i love it! It was a night and day difference after the install, but it does take a tiny bit extra to turn at a dead stop but not much of a difference

 

I don't remember my steering getting any harder when I added my stabilizer. Wish I could better answer you

I've never heard of a stabilizer helping to cut down on ball joint wear...that's a new one. I've always used them to help keep control of large wheels up front.

 

IMHO...if you don't have bump steer...and don't off-road often, then don't waste the cash of dual setup.

I dont think you will have a problem. Your steering is powered by a belt driven accessory pump. I think theres enough assistance from the truck.

 

i paid $120 for my dual SJ kit and also got free shipping, cheap for a dual kit and it works and makes a difference. And wasting money? at least the dual stabilizers do something that works, unlike 90% of the four hundred dollar cold air intakes people buy and install

 

I added dual Rough Country Steering stabilizers I got off Ebay from Rough Country, $90 shipped IIRC. I like them. i didn't have a steering stabilizer before, and I think dual looks better, plus if one goes the other should still work.

I noticed no difference in handling, but I didn't have issues to begin with, I just leveled out the front and added 16x10 rims and 35" tires. I highly doubt the stabilizers will effect the steering pump....but I suppose anything is possible.

 

My stock tires were 275/70-18. I now have 325/50-20, but its the offset of the new rims that I'm mainly concerned about. The websites for top gun customs and rough country both said they would cut down on ball joint wear.

I think I'll give it a shot they're only about $150 anyway. If I don't like them I'll post them in the classifieds or on craigslist

 

I liked my BDS duals until I wrecked them. I'm going back to a single when I can grab my old one out of storage (Nothin on it now), for 35s or less duals are overkill. I could tell a pretty good difference between duals and nothing at all, not "hard to turn", just noticable

 

Mine was missing when I got it used. Put on a single warn and have noticed alot of reduced vibration in the way the steering handles. Don't think a duel is needed unless you go to much bigger ( height) tires and only if you offroad alot.

 

Does the height really matter? I thought it was because bigger tires weigh more. My rims and tires are very heavy for 33s, just under 120 lbs. each. Maybe I'll just go with an upgraded single.

 

Buy a good single and you'll be fine for your setup.

I ran a single 50/50 Fox stabilizer for years on my 2000, had 37" tires. Had no issues with it.

I noticed mine doesn't have any. My manual shows one on the front steering/suspension diagram... Haven't noticed any issues and spoke w/ a guy at the driveline shop and he said doesn't matter. Any thoughts? I've given thought to adding on on the passenger side
