Tailgate Part

The tailgate on my '85 F250 6.9 only has 122k on it and runs great. It's been in the family since new. But the tailgate is done.

This morning I found a new louvered or fifth wheel gate for a '93 era Ford. I tried it and found while it fit in the slot on the passenger side, the tailgate hole on the left was a tad too small to fit over the spindle on the truck itself. That spindle is fastend with just two screws, look like tork type. Looking at the spindle (my term) on the seller's newer truck, it looked identical but for the slightly smaller spindle. So for 45 bucks, I had to buy it and take a chance.

So, is there a name for that part, and can I buy one on some site? I'm hours away from a junkyard and would like to order it online.

I hope the description is understandable. Thanks.

If it is what I think you're talking about, Ford just calls it an Insert.

If this is the part you're looking for, Bob Allen Ford in Kansas shows they have 5 of them.

Ford dealer websites that let you search for parts by no.

Where you able to find this part at Bob Allen Ford from their website (or do you work there)? You said they have five in stock. I could not find a place on the website to enter a part number and check their stock. I'm always looking for OEM (NOS) parts for my '82.

I like the websites like "Green Sales Company" where you put in the OEM part number and it tells you if the part is in stock. This saves a bunch of time over calling dealerships and asking if they have the part (which they usually don't for a truck over 25 years old).

I use a parts locator, in this case I wasn't sure where the location was, just says Colorado, so I entered a zip for Denver.

Welcome to the part search page

HIGH BUCK!! Bob Allen Ford wants mega-bucks for obsolete parts! Call Allen first (800-676-0675), everyone else will be cheaper, I kid you not.

There are many other sources that have these inserts for a lot less!

Note: There are THREE different types of these inserts, are specific to certain years. 1980/86 uses one type (E3TZ-99430B22-B = obsolete, over 100 available NOS) / 1987/91 another (E7TZ-99430B22-A = Available from Ford).

The 1987/91 insert is also used on 1992/96's, but only on the right side. The 1992/96 left insert is different (F6TZ-99430B23-AA = Available from Ford).

CountryBumkin: You wanna save time? Sign on to PartsVoice.com, Green Sales and a whole slew of other obsolete parts vendors are listed, as are 25% of the US/Caribbean Ford Dealers.

No charge to sign on or search for parts, you can type 5 numbers, not 1 only like Green's site.

And if you cannot find the parts you're looking for, send me an email or P/M. I also use the in-house FoMoCo Dealer Parts Locator System to search for NOS.

The 1980/89 Ford LIGHT Truck Parts Catalog is available on a CD from hipoparts.com

Actually, since he stated that the part in question was attached by two "Torx" screws, I think the part he was looking for is this: E0TZ-9943018-A.
I checked Partsvoice.com, and there are several sources for this part as well.
(Results depending on if the second "digit" is typed as a "zero" or letter "o".)

You all are great. All this info overnight. I think Drumfeild hit it. In the diagram by 82F100, what I'm looking for is the part opposite the "insert" shown at the lower right. So either Numberdummy or Drumfield has it. Anyway, it looks like I can get the part from one of the sources you all cited. Thanks a ton.

Make sure you get the one that fits the newer gate!

Getting one the same as original on your truck, won't do you much good.

Well aware, I had to wise Chris (ctubutis) up, cuz he was typing p/n's into PV only using the zero prefix (which is correct), but many p/n's were typed into PV (and the dealer locator) using an O. This 0/O jazz also affects 1960, 1970 and 1990.

Dealer locator: E0TZ-9943018-A = NONE / EOTZ-9943018-A = FIFTY SIX available NOS from 26 dealers.

PV: E0TZ-9943018-A = ONE / EOTZ-9943018-A = 11 sources have FORTY.

And Carpenter screwed up, when he listed parts on PV, typed the third prefix digit of O (Fairlane/Torino/LTD II, 1966/79 Ranchero, and etc) as a zero.

I called, DC is aware, says it will take "some time" to correct this foul up. Meanwhile, 100's of parts that peeps are prolly looking for sit on DC's shelves, listed on PV under INVALID part numbers!

Well, Bill, I had a brain fart as well. I failed to notice that the o.p. stated that the tailgate came from a 90's model.
That being the case, the "hinge" parts that bolt on to the bed corners are different.

87/up F150/350 Roller Assembly(Tailgate Hinge on Body) (RH) E7TZ-99430B38-A (LH) E7TZ-99430B39-A
(Parts book=cd from hipoparts.com)

Now, whether these will bolt directly to an '85 or not, I can't say.
Sorry about that.

Hopefully, the o.p. hasn't ordered the wrong part by my mistake.

It's Sunday, no one is open. I don't think he knows what he wants/needs regardless. Also did he buy the '93 tailgate? He said he was looking at one, but that's about it.

There are still some NOS 1983/86 'gates available NOS. Carpenter finally has the tailgate overlays (aluminum trim panels) available that he's been sayin' in his catalogs "coming soon" for the past several years.

According to his original post (unless I'm reading it wrong), he did buy it.

Guess we interpret things differently. He said he found one, tried it, one side didn't fit, but I don't see where he said he actually he bought it.

EDIT, he did, 2nd paragraph, last sentence. My bad, but...

Would you buy something you weren't sure would fit, before researching? Of course not and I wouldn't either.

Well, I'm spanked, numbersdummy. But as the tailgate popped right onto the RH fitting and would not fit over the LH part as it was a bit larger, and since the tailgate owner's truck was available to look at and see that its LH part was identical but for the size of the protrusion, as far as the eye could see, and since those gates cost several times $45,it seemed like a no brainer. And with everyone's help here, it's pretty clear what part I will order.

As for not knowing what I wanted/needed, just not knowing the nomenclature doesn't mean I don't know what I want/need. Hey, I thanked everybody, right? If I was a mechanic, I wouldn't have had to ask.

Sorry about the Monday morning attitude.
