Air shocks?

Ok, dumb or not, I gotta ask. Has anyone used air shocks to lift the rear just a little or help out with towing? Now I'm not talking air BAGS here I'm only talking shocks. Good, bad, and ugly, fill me in. Thanks.

I think the weak link would be the extra load on the shock mounts. The upper mounts are just a couple of small bolts into the body. The lower mounts rely on a small nub on the axle to keep from rolling around the axle.

On my 2wd the extra tension from the helwig caused these nubs to round off a bit allowing the mounts to swivel around the axle. I removed the helwig, squared the mounts back up and tightened the u-bolts as tight as I could. If they slipped again, my next step was going to be tacking a few welds from the mount to the axle.

Thanks STANG. i forgot to mention, I'm not gonna be doing much if any towing with the EX. My bigGER truck does the towing, all i wanted to do was level the Ex out. Monroe makes some max air shocks that i was looking at, they are cheap enough that I can pull the trigger on them and not regret it. Just wanted to know of any precieved problems before i did it.

As Stang mentioned the biggest thing to watch for is the shock mounts. They are not designed to really transfer any load and will start to bend. If you decide to add the air shocks at least keep an eye on the mounting points, although if they do bend you might never get them back in the same spot without cutting and welding.
