I'm still new to the 6.0, and love it other than one thing driving me nuts- fuel mileage! One tank I get 19, hand calculated, the next I get 14. I always fill at the same pump at the same station. I'm driving the same place the same way. I am easy on the go pedal and pride my self on having a smooth foot. On my old Dodge, when mileage started dropping, you cleaned/changed the IAT. But, it was never so erratic. Is this common with the Fords or is there something I need to look at? I'm taking a 2500 mile trip in a couple weeks. I can live with 18 or 19, ( 01 Dodge got 22 w/o 5ver and 17 with) but 14 will kill me. Any info is appreciated.
A 5 mpg swing seems a little strange. Nothing is changing...strong head winds? Running the a/c in stop & go traffic? The only time I get that kind of mileage is when I've got a trailer in tow. But then I'm a 2WD truck.

True, but you won't have any problem passing the Dodges on the hills/mountain pulls.
This is all empty mileage. All the same roads and conditions.
As far as passing the Dodges, on a trip to Alaska, I got behind about 15 old gomers in a caravan going 40. It was on the ALCAN in Canada and I could see for miles. I know this was stupid and my wife was screaming her **** off, but I pulled my 28" 5ver past the whole group in one shot. I hit 110 and held it there with no issues - egt's sat about 1050 which was fine. Before people start screaming, I repeat I know it was stupid, I was young and impatient and at times absolutely stupid! That cummins was great, but the rest of the truck was a POS. This Ford rides and drive SO much better. I have a very messed up lumbar spine and I can't believe how much more comfortable I am!
