I have a 1990 Bronco with a 5.0 with AOD tran. I am looking to put dual exaust on my Bronco. Does anybody have any suggestions on what types of systems I should use? Are there any advantages to mufflers than just straight pipes?
Best thing I can tell you is dont run duals on a bronco. The exhaust exiting the rear will seep into the cab. Plus, if you run with the window down, all that exhaust will get pulled into the cab. Any reason you want to run duals? You can make as much power with a high flow single pipe exiting in the stock location.
I personally dont like standard dual exhaust, it's too conforming to society today. Anyway, if you get true duals, you can get the shop to bend the pipes so that they are 90 degrees from straight, thus they go right after the rear tires. The local shops have told me that this gives the fumes enough time to get past the rear, and you won't suck any in. I know for a fact that accelerating hard in any circumstance, or off road going slow, giving it a lot of gas, you will get fumes in the cab. It's gonna happen.
I fixed the problem by getting pipes that exit in front of the right rear tire, no fumes come in unless you leave the passenger door open. I don't have a muffler, so it sounds good, and get a noticable difference in power. Just my own solution.
Bama
I have dual flowmasters on my 91 351. They are bent 90 behind the tires. The sound is a low, smooth rumble but not the big bubba truck growl you hear a lot of down here in southern Alabama. Good thing I'm leaving in a couple weeks. My buddy has a gibson single off a Chevy 350 that sounds real deep and mellow. Hope this helps.
