Guys - after a tough towing experience this past weekend with the kids and Mastiff, I just (last night) purchased a 2012 F-250, Lariat 6.7 Diesel. This thing is sweeeeet. I will miss the Excursion as she treated me real well and was a lot of fun; kept the little kids safe for the past 7 years. But, it was time to move on and up.
Anyways, I'm looking forward to sharing stories with ya'll and in the meantime will sit back and do some reading and monitoring.

I know...I know.... Pictures coming shortly.
what are you towing?
I've had mine (250 SB) for almost 2 months.. love (almost) everything about it..
(its less stable than my 08 dually, and wish the rear springs were heavier)
Also, how do you feel about losing all that 'interior' space? I left behind a Navigator for this truck and while I considered a topper, I ended up with a Leer cap to keep my gear in when traveling.
Congratulations on the new truck. We love ours, and our favorite items are the seats, quiteness of the cab and the Sirius radio. I try to tone down the smiling all the time while I'm driving, it kinda freaks out the wife. My truck has a 4.10 LS rearend, it pulls the 5th wheel like it's not even hooked on. I am a slow driver, so the low speed rear end is no handicap to me, unlike some here I never drive over 60 mph loaded or empty.
Have a great time with the new truck, but watch that uncontrollable tendency to smile all the time. It seems to cause wives to think you are thinking about something you aren't supposed to be. Happy and safe travels...
An excursion with a 6.7 would be a real treat. I wonder why Ford stopped making them?
Isn't that the truth !!!
but it would be tough to tie on the 5th wheel
The tree huggers called it the Ex-valdex and screamed about how bad it ate fuel...
even though it doubled the suburban mpg at the time and was registered as an ULEV !!!
Congrats on the new rig. I left behind a suburban but have not looked back. Put a Snug Top on for the dogs and gear everyone is happy. Can't wait to see the pics...
Thanks Guys- currently towing a 25' AirStream Safari. What really Torques me on the Ex was that I just (this past weekend) put a Hellwig rear anti-sway bar on it; it made the Ex handle like a sports-car but (in my opinion) made the towing worse. I don't know why it seems that way and it may only be my imagination, but the wander seemed to be coming back and after the mods I did (the spring mod; Red-Top steering Box; all new rotors and pads; rancho 9000 adjustable shocks; plussed up the castor on the alignment; all new ball joints and steering stabilizer; new plugs; Transmission flush) it just wasn't a pleasant towing experience. My fear was that I'd be 6 or 8 hours into a tow and in heavy traffic and I'd lose my focus for a moment and we'd side-swipe someone or worse. I just couldn't take that risk with the kids.
I miss the space of the Ex. One of my favorite things was to take out the third row seats, put the second row down and toss in my sleeping bag; some guns and supplies and hit the road for a mobile "walk-a-bout". Last year took a week and did the south-west all by myself.
So far I love the truck - just jacking around town the mileage is better than I ever got on the Ex (I know that their are other costs associated with the diesel).
Bottom line - I would have felt awful had I injured the family for failure to get the safest rig I could (within reason and budget). The F-250 tends to toss the budget out the window but I'm hoping to have it paid off by the time I retire from the military and won't have that millstone of a payment hanging around my neck. I'm hoping with proper care that truck will last me until the little hoodlums are out of the house - another 11 or 12 years.
I to came over from Excursion land, loved my X, it has been the very best vehicle I have ever owned. I was ready to do more mods to it when I made the misteak of test driving the new Super Duty. I test drove the 6.2 and the 6.7 and it was all over after getting behind the wheel of the 6.7. It has been a GREAT truck so far with relaxing towing of our 30' travel trailer that weighs 9K.
Enjoy the new truck! I put a Leer canopy on the back with a bedrug and can sleep in the back very nicely if needed.
