1982 F350

Hi,
New to the board and need some help...
Just purchased a 1982 F350 (used the Ford Fleet vin search tool) dually. In really good shape. Seems it came with a 5.8L (again based on the vin tool). Is there any place I can get more info on it and speak with others that have the same type? Thinking of a restore project as its that good of shape.

Thanks for the help!

This is the right place - thanks, John. LOTS of knowledge here about those trucks. But, what are your questions?

In order to help you we need to know what you have. Good place to do that is in your signature, although some people have those turned off so you should tell us at the top of a thread what you have. You've started by saying F350, 5.8l (351W), and DRW. What about transmission? What carb? Is it computerized? ????????

Oh yes: WELCOME TO FTE!!

Welcome OP!

In the driver's door jamb there should be a sticker. White, with blue lettering. Get us a picture of that. That will give some more info about GVW, trans, differential, etc.

Thanks for moving me - Any help?

I have a 1982 F350 Dually stake-bed. 5.8L V8. Excellent truck, strong and solid. Having trouble identifying my dual fuel tanks and want to replace both. Any suggestions on where I can get details on replacing? Any sites that specialize in DYI types like me? Thanks for the help! Ed

You can get replacement tanks from LMC truck, replacement sending units and pumps from RockAuto, and the correct fuel lines and such from any generic auto parts store. Check to make sure none of the wiring is buggered up. Also, it would be beneficial to test if your tank selector switch works or not, as that would be another thing to replace.

Welcome to FTE. It sounds like you have a great truck.

Might ask at a local parts store about tanks & such, save on shipping costs.

Where did KFM say his F350 has a 351W? All he said was it's a 5.8L

5.8L: Is it a 351W (six valve cover bolts per side)? Or is it a 351M (8 valve cover bolts per side)? Both were available for these trucks.

Fuel tanks (mid-ship & aft axle) could be plastic or steel, the F350's wheelbase also applies to applications.

I don't think the F250/350 variants became computerized until 1987+.

Introduced in sold new in CA 1981 F100/350's, Bronco's & Econolines. By 1984 all had one.

12A650 is the basic number, but there are no application charts for the little charmers, are only listed in the Calibration Code part lists.

Happy hunting, cuz there's only 713 of the parts lists to browse thru.

Let me correct myself....

Except in California, I don't think computers were on the heavier trucks until 1987+.

Didn't they phase out the 351M in 1981 and replace it with the 351W for 1982?

And besides, was the 351W even an option on F350's? I'm wondering if O.P. really has a 400.
