Drove my truck across town, shut it off, and it would start again. It just turned over. Pulled off a plug wire stuck a spark plug in and had no spark what so ever. Replaced the ignition module with a new one the I bought at Oriely's. But I had to remove the distributor to replace it. Started up fine but misses really bad. I marked where the distributor sat before i took it off so the timing is the same or should be. Bad ignition module i bought or something else???
You marked the distributor, but did you mark or make a reference of the rotor?
Its possible when you put it back in the rotor is off, which would defiantly cause it to backfire.
Get it timed, make sure you remove the SPOUT
You could just put NO 1 cylinder on TDC, and then pull the cap off the distributor and see if the rotor is under NO 1, then after that time it.
Thanks for the quick replys. I marked the rotor too so i don't think it is that and it is not backfiring. It is driveable but misses pretty bad. I think I will check the coil here in a little while. Thanks.
Hehe... don’t know where I got backfiring from?
Hit man does make a good point.
Does the misfire worsen at higher RPM (off idle and up), if so high possibility of the coil.
Check the primary and secondary resistance of the coil, using an ohm meter.
That should say something

If the coil is not saturating its creating a misfire in a cylinder.
Check for black smoke out the exhaust, and for the MIL light to go on.
This doesn’t really seem like a coil problem to me, but I just don’t know.
If this happened exactly after the ignition module replacement, its must be a spark problem. Now is it primary or secondary? Did you remove any spark plug wires, if so were they installed in the correct terminal? That is the only secondary problem I can see.
Other wise it’s a primary problem.
An oscilloscope would be nice!!
Otherwise the only primary components are the ignition switch, batt +, Hall Effect, ignition module. and coil.
Just start testing and ruling out components and you figure out the problem
If a pair of plug wires were switched and I messed up and did'nt know it wouldn't it miss at all speeds and rpms? I really doubt this is the problem but I do make mistakes
I give up and have no idea what the problem could be. I have checked everything over very well. It is going into the ford shop tomorrow at 8:00 in the morning and I will hopefully have it back after school. Thanks for all the help and I'll let you all know what it was.
I now have my truck back from Ford and nothing has changed. They do not know what it is. I am ****** off!
Right now I am going to put a distributor on it that came off another truck with a MOTORCRAFT ignition module on it instead of one bought form the parts store. Anew motorcaft ignition modle cost over $100. I just bought the cheap one. I none of this changes by problem I am putting on a new coil. If anyone thinks of anything let me know please.
If anyone ever cares never put on an ignition module that you bought from oriely's. Go to a junk yard, like I did, and get one or buy a Motorcraft one for more than $100.
