F350 Vibration

Hi All,

I found this site last week when I was looking for instuctions to change my tranny fluid. It was helpful in that regard, so I thought I would ask a question about the vibration I am getting at highway speeds.

I have a 1991 F350 4X4 Crew Cab with 125,000 miles on it. Before I bought it, I jacked up the front end and checked to see if the front end was tight and I could not wiggle anything so I think the tie rods, bearings and ball joints are good.

Driving back and forth to work, I typically hit 50 to 60 MPH and it rides nice and smooth. When I get out on the Interstate and try to drive 65 to 75 MPH, I get a vibration and I cannot tell where it is coming from. If I have a few hundred pounds in the back it isn't as noticable. This is my first Ford truck and my first one ton. Is this vibration normal for this truck? What should I try first - tire balancing?

Thanks in advance

try puting your truck in a different gear when on highway and see if the vibration happens at a certain rpm that will tell you if it is drivetrain or not and i would get your tires balance first for sure and you say it is less noticable when the back is loaded down your f-350 should be full floating and your lock nuts are on the outside might be loose i would check that to thats all that holds your tire from falling off with the axle shaft attached to it

Drem,

Welcome to FTE from another New Mexican.

My suggestion is that you might want to check the carrier bearing on the driveshaft. You should have a 2 piece driveshaft and it should have a center support. That's the carrier bearing. If there is slop in it, you will need to take it to a drive train place and have them replace it. It is pressed on.

Good luck, and again, welcome.
