Hi guys, man the year sure is flying by. I had to cut the rear of the fenders so when tilting the hood they would clear the cowl.
I bought a lazer level and set the beam up 1/2'' out from the widest part of the cowl, then scribed a line where the beam fell on the fender.
The 'v' shaped piece I cut off , I cut the flange off and welded it back into the fender.
Now I'm repairing the rust in the lower edge of the fenders...
Cheers, Steve.
Gidday guys, yes Roy a separate panel will be made and bolted to the cowl, I plan to maintain a 1/2'' gap ...... and some sort of anti splash out of sight.
I have the original running boards, but I plan on making some out of 5mm plate, they'll be separate from the fenders.
The fenders will have their own rear mounts and lock set up.
The photos are Saturdays effort.
Regards, Steve.
Good to see I'm not the only one tilting my front end. With the way mine hinges I was able to bolt the inner fender liners in their original place & trim out the excess where it would have contacted the cross member for the Mustang rack & pinion steering. I made a real simple hinge, which I'm going to try to attach some photos of, & the bumper & all tilts with the hood & fenders so I do not have clearance issues. My fenders also scraped the cowl when I would raise it so I cut part of the lower fenders off & permanently mounted them to the cowl & no more scratching. I did add panels to the ends of the cut off fender parts where they meet so there shouldn't be any sharp edges. I also had to graft on parts of the lower fenders as someone cut them off & cut out the wheel wells in an effort to lower the cab on the chassis, I redid all of that in order to get a more stock factory look, at least from a distance you can't tell the whole front end tilts up & the doors are suicide doors.
I may try to use partial running boards but the rear mount for the boards won't fit as I am using springs & spring mounts from a Ford Ranger & the front mounts are right where the running board mount would go.
If I can't figure out a way to attach the photos just send me your email address & I'll send them direct.
Gidday Chuck, how we post photos is to setup a photobucket account.... it doesn't cost anything. Load your photos into your album and copy and paste the img code into your thread.

OK Steve I have created an album entitled "1946 Ford tilt front end" & posted a few photos of the hot rod. It is far from being done but since I don't have much of a budget I have had to make most of the parts used on the truck with few exceptions where I either didn't have the tools or skills to make the part or it was reasonably priced. I have had to learn how to do a lot of things while building the truck & if anyone needs info on building something or how to make a certain part maybe I can help them.
Hope you like the photos, I have a CD full of them.
Hey Chuck, I did a search in photobucket for '46 Ford tilt front end'..... no go... couldn't find it.... buy then again I'm not that smart with computers... I assume you setup your album in photobucket, to post them here, you need photobucket and FTE running, put your cursor over the photo you want to post , a dropdown box will appear, click on the img code, then paste into a thread you will have started. When you submit the thread the photo will appear, then we can all see your truck ...
Good luck, Steve.
It looks like I may be in the same sinking boat. I never did find anything that said "Photobucket" but did put the photos in an album entitled 1946 Ford tilt front end. Even at that I could not do a search in albums & find the photos, I had to go to albums & scroll down about 4 or 5 pages in order to find the photos I put in. Maybe if I could find the photobucket it might work better but at least you can find the pics if you scroll enough.
I went to a wrecking yard yesterday and grabbed a few gas struts of various lengths......the struts will be used to limit how far the hood will tilt, a bit better than chains or wire ropes rattling around rubbing a hole through a radiator .....
Anyhow that's the plan, just have to put it into action.
Regards, Steve.
