solid lifter question

I have just found an fe in a junkyard that raised my eyebrows. I spotted the adjustable rocker assemblies laying next to the motor inside the valve covers. The intake was gone. I pulled out a lifter to discover that it was a solid version. The heads are C4AE, the block is a C6ME-A. The oil filter adapter and the exhaust manifolds are for a truck. There is not a counterweight on the flexplate. What are your thoughts of this combo, did somebody add a solid cam to a 390/360 truck engine? Or should I pull a head and do some measuring?

solid lifter question

You best pull the heads and measure or pull the pan and ID the crank. These old FEs all look alike from the outside.

I think they ran some solid lifter setups in the early 60's FEs for cars.

If you find it has a 4.23" bore, it's not worth anything. Just tell me where it is so I can build that planter for my patio :-)

solid lifter question

. C6ME block could either be a 4.05 bore( 390-410) or 4.13 bore ( 428) it will not have a 4.23 bore. Could be a 428 PI block seeing as the intake's missing ( they were aluminum) and the solid lifters. Was there an oil passage in the wall of the lifter bore? A solid lifter block will have the bosses cast for an oil gallery but will not be drilled.
