I have a 1999 F250 Super Duty Lariat with the 5.4L V8 Triton. I am interested in converting my headlights to HID's. I saw several conversion kits, HID bulbs, and ballists (?). I was wondering what I need to do in order to convert. Thanks
depends how much you want to get into it, cheap easy buy a good set of bulbs. Expensive get a set of projectors from a TL and convert into your headlights.
Here is a link to a place that sells everything you will need or want and if you give them a call they are really nice and helpful.
I used to be a fan of DDM tuning, until I bought a set of HIDs from eBay. I paid something like $17 with free shipping from a US seller.. Been problem free for over a year..
A good set generally runs axp 100 - 150. Digital aftermarket ballasts are the best lowest draw and last the longest. The bulbs are all going to be a version of a " rebase " to fit a halogen style housing. I kicked around a try retro but would be apx 350 - 400 for it. I have a set in my 07' Accord they are 55w digital ballasts and they have lasted over 4 years now w/o a issue. They are just as bright and fire just as quick. I will not use them in my F250 as it sits to high and I don’t want to blind the person in front of me or opposing traffic only reason I did on my Accord its lowered 3" and they have a diffuser in front of the bulb so it still retains the factory cutoff.
The 9007’s are a bi-xinon bulb and they use a shutter to create a cut offline. Acura TL’s on Infinity’s FX are the 2 most common for the retrofit kits and they will take a DS2 bulb and stick with Phillips and Denso or Matsuhita Ballasts they are the best on he market Try to keep the bulbs apx 4300 – 6000 color temp for a more true white anything under 4300 is to yellow for a headlight and over 6k starts to turn purple’ish and actually cuts down on your useable lights.
On a truck you really need to do it the right way as to not create a situation where you can cause issues with other drivers thus effecting safety because they are blinded at night exp on long drives over the interstate or in a more rural area.
