I'm trying to set up my 04 F250 with 140k miles as best I can for a loong life. In doing so research along with this forum, I found this guy from powerstrokehelp.com Bill Hewitt. Is that system "EDAV" any account? Would my 04 F250 w/ 140k benifit from it? or would a good set of properly placed gauges be the way to? And if so what gauges are crucial? How much of what Bill Hewitt says is "good" information?? Thanks
Just do a little searching on here and you will find that Bill Hewitt is generaly thought of as a DB.
Just get some gauges. What type is up to you I would suggest a digital OBDII gauge. IMO, the best one would be the Edge CTS with added sensors for fuel pressure and EGT's. You could get some analog gauges if you want. You will need at a minimum EGT's, FP, EOT, and ECT, also consider trans temp, and boost gauge. You could go with the scan gauge II from autozone, you will be able to get all the gauges you need with it (except for fule pressure and EGT's) for ~$150. Lots of people go that route.
Bill gives some good advice and also some advice that could be detrimental to your 6.0. Better to get your advice on FTE. That way if you get erroneous advice, the odds are someone will catch it and get you back on track.
I watched Bill's videos an thought some of them had good info. But thought some of them were over kill. I took what I seen in his videos an what I read on here an figured out what I needed to fix as far as makin my truck a good reliable truck that will last me ALONG time.
I will b 39 in August an plan on this bein the only diesel truck I ever own. May even take it to the after life with me an keep drivin it.
....... and don't be making fun of him now, or he won't change your high pressure oil pump oil!!!!
i was watching one of his videos, and when he suggested the only
way to piece of mind was to ship your vehicle to him to be fixed,
i did have a chuckle.
my BS filter became clogged, and i've been trying to clean it
with a toothbrush since the video.... maybe if i soaked it in
marvel mystery oil... would that help?
i'd call his info 70-30... 70% accurate information, and 30%
information that if used will largely destroy the money you
spent putting in the repairs by ensuring that you'll have to do
them over again, at best.
he's got a bunch of youtube videos, but there was one i found
that he was singing the praises of BO head gaskets, and without
exception, iv'e found every piece of advice except his says those
will fail quickly.
I live close to Bill and he did the bullet proofing on my truck several years ago. It runs better now than it ever has. I run a hot tune and I don't worry about the EGR cooler or head gaskets (he recommended OEM, not BO - haven't seen his video about BO head gaskets). I think I'll call him back in a few months to do the oil cooler as I don't have the time or tools to do it right.
I agree with those who say to combine Bill's videos with the advice of some very knowledgeable people here and draw your own conclusions. That's what I do. Regarding EDAS specifically I opted to just replace the degas bottle cap with a new one (after watching Bill's video on the subject).
Making fun of him SHOULD BE beneath at least some of you. If you have a problem with his videos, make your case in a civil manner in the youtube comments section. Or email him. Bashing him on here like a little kid makes YOU look bad.

youtube comments civil. I must be reading different ones then you. Bill has an account here, were he is more then welcome to send me a message as anyone else can.
Its also only bashing if its not true. Also Im ok with looking bad.
Everyone is trying to do the best for the owners, live and learn. If we only knew at the launch of the 6.0L what we know now, people would still have hair left....
Wow! Didnt know all the "loving feelings" would come out for this guy! I can agree that some of the information looks to be useful, but at times looks like he really wants you to make a trip to GA. But I think I will rely mostly on the vast knowledge that is available on FTE. Thanks for all the advice guys.
when my truck put me down, i ran across his youtube videos. i had only been on here a very short time then.i watched all of his videos an started doin alot of searches on here an asking questions.from his videos an the info i got from here, i decided which direction i wanted to go an what all i wanted to do to my truck to make it live along time.
i dont take the advice or comments from any one person on my truck. i try to gather all the info i can from several different people an places an then decide on what action to take.
yes, ALOT of VERY good people on here who know these trucks inside an out.an i do thank all of you who help us with our trucks.
Back in 09 when my dad and i were debating getting 6 liters, i found his videos and watched them every night. Allot of them are helpful, but id agree with what was previously said. 70-30.
After taking his info and combining that with what iv learned on the forums and in real life, i have my own opinions on things.
I strongly disagree with him about gold coolant. It is not the "proper coolant" for our trucks.
I believe gold coolant is the root of most/all oil cooler problems and in turn, egr cooler problems.
