Special Ordering

After going back and forth with issue after issue on my truck, my dealer is supposedly going to work on making a deal to get me into a new one. Since they don't have what I want on the lot, and can't find anything available on another dealer's lot, I'm looking at ordering a truck. I have never special ordered before, so I have a question about incentives. Does anyone know if they lock in at the time the order is placed, or do you have to wait until the truck comes in and take whatever Ford is offering at that time?

It's my understanding that you get the better of all the incentives between order and delivery. I can't prove that and I recommend that you double check. Congrats on staying with the Ford family.

Thanks Tim. The salesman told me yesterday that rebates may not be as high as they are now when the truck arrived if I ordered one. I felt as though they were just telling me this so that I take something on their lot and I won't do that because they don't have what I want in inventory.

Again, congrats on the new ride, get it like you want it after all your gonna pay for it! In my experience, a firm out the door price with a copy of the buyers order showing your OTD price works well with the agreement if incentives are better upon delivery you are entitled to them as well. If dealer balks, WALK AWAY. He will make this deal if you make him believe you don't have to have it. Definitely not the quickest process, but effective. Good luck!

There is a form they can fill out that will lock in the current incentives. If the incentives are better when your truck arrives, you can opt for those... if not, you can use what was in play when you ordered. This is fairly new (in the last few years). I've never purchased a vehicle off the lot - always order so I get exactly what I want - and I did it on my 2009 150.

If the dealer is whining now, consider how well they're going to support you down the road. I've always thought of large purchases like this as more of a relationship than a one-time thing... if they whine now, they probably won't back you up later. This might be a good time to find a new dealership.

Why not wait and order a 2013? There are going to be some additional features not available on the 12's. Should be able to order a 2013 at the end of June.

I'm going to order a 13 for the MFT and tow mirrors with power fold/extend. Plus projector headlights.

I ordered a new F150 in late March and it arrived in early May. When the truck arrived I had choice to take incentives at time of order or take incentives at time of delivery. Easiest multi-choice test I've ever taken.

The incentives are quite good right now in excess of $7K. And it just so happens that all the current incentives are eligible on top of the x-plan price (Ford supplier discount) and that doesn't always happen. Good time to buy if you're in the market.

Well, I ended up not needing to special order after all. Dealer located one for me. I'm getting an XLT Supercrew, silver, gray interior with bucket seats and console, chrome step bars, 3.55 gears, and I'm going with the 5.0 engine again. Dealer will put a spray in bed liner too. I Should get it next week. I got $7,423 for incentives.

to be perfectly honest man...I wouldn't do it. If you do end up passing on the truck they have right now, I'd wait a week or 2 and then order a 2013 model if you are absolutely stuck on getting another F-150.

personally, I'd ditch the current truck and go to another brand. I love my Fords, but....frankly Ford has been dropping the ball IMO lately.

have you thought about a EB F-150? You and the 5.0 don't get along apparently. Just a thought.

I thought about it, but I'm a Ford man through and through. Although my current truck has been a lemon, I still believe in the Ford product and the dealer made a good deal to get me into a new one. Luckily, they ended up locating the exact truck I wanted 6 hours away, so I didn't have to order. I thought about the EB, but there wasn't one available with the package I wanted, so I went with the 5.0 again. The truck got to the dealer today, so I'm hoping to get it tmorrow or the next day.

Well, here she is. I was lucky enough that my dealer was able to locate one in the next state over that had exactly what I wanted, so I didn't have to order after all.

Very nice looking brother. I was wondering if silver trucks are your problem.
