Rectangular Headlights

I was under the impression that rectangular headlights were introduced on the 1979 model year. However, I've seen several pictures in ads for 1978 model year trucks that have rectangular headlights. What's the straight scoop on when then headlights were changed?

Rectangular Headlights

They started putting them on in mid year in 78 and in 79 on all models.

78 Ranger and better trim packages and all 79's had them
