door hinge pin puller

I had to remove to hinge pin ,I could not get the screw out. So I order a hinge pin puller tool what a joke 1st the pin heads were to big, then the pins to push the pin throught the hinge all bent.. So I remove them the old way cut the heads off heated and the air chisel..
**** $40.00 dollars for a tool that can't do the job.......

Should have checked here first. I could have told you the tool was junk...

If you have a '48 it might have worked in '49.

I never got to the point of bending pins. I couldn't start turning the puller without scratching the paint on my doors. I have two hinge pin mirrors that I can't use because it would completely destroy my paint.

Looking for a plan B!

I tried to use one on a 29 Ford years ago. It would not work on that either...

Ahhh . . . the dreaded "Hinge Pin Hell" They won't come out until you take the hinges off, turn 'em upside down and hit the pin squarely as hard as you can with a good metal punch and a BFH. I didn't buy the hinge pin puller as I never found anyone who said that it worked for them, but I bought every kind of penetrating oil known to man. They didn't help either.

I just did mine, I tried everything and ended up grinding the heads off the pins, took to them with a blowtorch and drove them downwards. They were really in there! Fine when stripping a truck for resto, not if you have nice paint though.

The hinge plate on the cab was a different matter, I needed to take one off to weld up a crack behind it. I soaked it in penetrating oil for days, heated it, shock cooled it, heated it again, used impact screwdrivers. Eventually I gave up and drilled the screws out. Need to find three matching screws now...

the door hinge pin remover tool is a myth. It doesn't work

I did the tried and true method. I drilled out the heads and then gave them a good smack. I had both the upper and lower pins replaced an about 30 minutes.
Take care and get the initial hole started dead center. The step up the bit sizes until you just have a thin bit of the original pin. Dont get to big of a diameter or you'll get into the knurls.

I had to take my doors off, heat the hinges up, drill the ends with an 1/8" bit about 1/2" deep, and pound them out with a flat punch and big f hammer. Before paint. A few years ago it bought one of the hinge pin pullers when I was working on at 41 Ford 4dr. It didn't even move the first pin before it broke. I think I may have beaten the remainder of it with a big f hammer before throwing it away...

Metro Bolt & Fastener carries them (http://metroboltmi.com/). Call and ask for Sid. They are not Phillips head rather Allen head fasteners but other than that they are identical. I got some anti-sieze compound from them too and put that on the treads in case I ever have to take the doors off again.

You were very lucky UBJ . . . or maybe skillful. But I think that a lot of it depends upon how much maintenance was done on the truck. If the door hinges were lubed occasionally during its lifetime? Although interestingly enough I see no reference to oiling the door hinges in any of the lube charts. Maybe that is why so many of us have had problems.
