Hey guys, I was wondering if someone could help me with installing an electric fan. I have a 1977 Ford f100 with no ac and was wondering if I still needed relays and a control module. I wanna run the fan to a manual switch that is in the cab of my truck. Whats the best and safest way to wire it up? Thanks
You'll need to at least run the fan through a continuous duty relay which draws directly from the battery. The switch inside the cab will provide the signal voltage to engage or disengage the relay. Do a Google search for a diagram.
What fan you get will determine the relay's rating that is required.. aim for at least 20 percent more than the fan will draw because the current draw (amps) will spike upon initialization.
I recommend upgrading the alternator with one that has at least 100 amps. Better yet if ya do a 130-amp 3G alternator swap to keep the battery alive. I did my 3G swap for $53.
Alright man thanks. I got a 140 amp alternator that I will be installing as well. So all I would need is that relay? Could I still run a module if i wanted to?
