Hi all, I have a '68 F-250 that I want to put power locks in. I have scavenged a couple of two-wire solenoids and a couple of 5-wire switches from a Taurus out of the junkyard. I have got the mounting figured out, but I need a little help with the wiring. O.K. a lot of help. Can anyone steer me in the right direction for a good wiring diagram for this install? Are solenoids really necessary? What else might I need? Any info you all can give is appreciated! Thanks again.
Technically, those are lock 'motors' - not solenoids.
You should use the wiring diagram from the same vehicle that you got the switches from - different Ford vehicles use different lock wiring, so you have to be consistent. A Haynes manual will have a good complete diagram, but you might find enough info here or here.
Technically a "Solenoid" is a motor.
a motor is "typically" radial motion.
a solenoid is "typically" axial motion
Being an electrical and test engineer for government aviation, I would probably call it a solenoid... or an actuator, which could be either a motor or solenoid.
Here is a diagram for a 91 ranger powerlocks. http://www.autozone.com/images/cds/g...3d800ba9cd.gif
Look in the middle right of the diagram. See if the colors are the same. If they are, you can follow this diagram and they should work ok.
