I installed my air bags last night and today I went out to put on the heat shield and the drivers side air bag seems to not be sitting level. That is to say the rear of the bag seems to pinched for lack of a better term. The bag is far from pinched on the front side of the bag there is 6" and on the back there is 5.5". This is with 70psi. This gets more drastic as there is less air pressure. I would say around 1.5" at 10psi. The passenger seems to be sitting fine. Is this normal?
I wouldn't say that is normal. Is it possible the bag is twisted a bit? Try removing the bag and reinstalling making certain it does not get rotated while inserting into the brackets. That is the only thing that comes to mind...unless of course the bag is defective. A picture might help if you don't think the bag is twisted.
the lower side of the bag on the Firestone kits has two positions.. the instructions say to position it toward the front of the vehicle.. this reduces the bag twist when the air pressure is lowered..
In an ideal world the top and bottom of the bag would be parallel during full travel of the bag. That being said the bags are able to withstand some twist, so I wouldn't be concerned that anything is ruined by any means.
If the bag seems to be getting better I would think that either the upper or lower bracket was slightly twisted or not situated correctly. By cycling them through their travel it is positioning itself in its preferred state. With this in mind, I would make sure to come back and check how tight the bolts are. You may even be able to loosen the culprit bracket and nudge it into a better position.
