i been searching the local bone yards and found a good set of chrome door handles (outside) for my truck since mine are pitted. i got them off the truck easily at the junkyard but i didnt buy them since i dont think i can get mine off so easily with the window and all in the way...any idea how to get them off without any major work? at the junkyard the windows were out and one side was off the door lock so it came right out, other side was a bit harder but the window wasnt in it either. i dont see mt getting them off unless i can take the window and accessories out. any help?? thanx
It's easy - just roll your windows all the way up. I've done it when I swapped to black handles. I found a R-side handle on a Lightning in a junkyard, but I had to have some of my spare handles powdercoated to get a driver's side black handle.
what about disconnecting it from the latch? im not to sure on how to get it, the one i got out was had a plastic piece busted. thanx steve, u know ur stuff...
It uses the same plastic clip that you'll see on the latch mechanism, lower in the door. You press the thin diagonal arm so it DOESN'T cross the operating rod, and hold it that way as you slide the rod out of the clip. You should be able to find a pic of it in my GP Auto pics or Tailgate album.
