I own a "new to me" 1989 F150 4WD. I recently rebuilt the steering column to replace the ignition actuator and didn't replace the turn signal/hazard switch. Now, the driver side rear brake light doesn't work and the hazard lights don't flash. I switched the bulbs in the rear and the problem doesn't move. Is this a similiar circuit? It looks like it is by looking over the schematic (uneducationally). How do I test and diagnose the problem?
Start at fuses, circuit breakers, fusible links, and bulbs. Then move into wire continuity & finally, switch logic.
the hazard lights don't flash
Does that mean they come on, but don't flash, OR that none of them even come on? Or just the L rear? Make sure the bulb is installed correctly - it goes one way, but some people manage to get it in backward.
I'm in the process of replacing my switch also. 89 F-150 4x4. And how did you manage get the new part in?
I'm talking about the 'hockey stick' part. I took the steering wheel of and kept on going until nothing else would come off, I might be in trouble, but I still can't get the new part in.
Thank you very much for your reply(s)... I think it is great to be able to ask experienced, good people who know what they are talking about
Yes, the hazard lights come "on" and stay "on". I will try the bulb again but the tail lights and turn signals seem to work when the bulb is in both positions in the socket.
I will check back sooner. I wasn't expecting a reply so quickly!!

The 'hockey stick' part is called the "ignition actuator" and I was able to get the new one in by taking out the hinge pins first.
