Any suggestions on a diesal/automatic trans swap in my 1968 f-250.It now has a 302 from 1973 car in it with an FMX trans..I know it can be done,but what would be best for reliability and light towing,just want to create something you don't see everyday...

 

I think you'd be crazy to put in anything other than a built 7.3 powerstroke engine.

Is this a show truck, or a work truck, or between?

As for the transmission, I'd look for a 1999-2002 ford powerstroke rollover, and then you can pull out the engine, transmission, and everything you could ever need to hook it up.

 

12v cummins is pretty straight forward, not alot of electronic issues to consider, readily available, fairly reliable, and can make decent power if you want to tweak on it. There is an issue with a dowel pin on some of them (KDP= Killer Dowel Pin) but it's easy to address with the engine out.

 

I second the 12v cummins, I put one in a 56 f600.

 

A 12 valve Cummins, DT360 International, or a turbo IDI(6.9/7.3)

 

i say DT360. everybody and their brother has a cummapart in their truck. how many people do you see with an international DT??

 

I've got a V6 cummins that I was gonna put in my crew cab. The trucks gone now but I've still got the engine.
