how to replace timing belt inline six
How do I replace the timing belt on a 79 F100 inline six? If the belt is missing a tooth, will this keep me from being able to adjust the timing properly? I can't keep the engine from stumbling, no matter where I adjust the distributor, even at ten degrees with a timing light.
And if you're going to replace the timing chain, you might as well go on and replace the timing gears, especially if they are missing teeth. It is a very simple job, just a little time and patience.
Okay well I'm an idiot for thinking one of those driving belts was a timing belt, but that doesn't explain why the timing is such a pain to set correctly....new plugs and wires, ignition module. I cant keep it from stumbling and hesitating on take-off no matter where I move the distributor. It smooths out when I accelerate, but I messed with this thing for hours and hours trying to get it just right. Aint happened yet.....
Sounds like Carburator issues, Accerator pump possibly With the engine off, air cleaner removed, looking down the throat of the carb, stroke the throttle cable. You should see a nice little steady squirt of fuel. If it just drips and looks weak, You'll need to replace the accerator pump. Cheap and easy
Thanks for the reply. Well, I know it needs a carburetor for other reasons but the thing is it sat parked for about a month because the ignition module went out. I took the distributor out to check it out too and stuck it back in wrong. When I corrected it and got it back to basic time, I tweaked and tried and tried to get the timing just right, but that little miss is always there. It wasn't there before the ignition module went out. So.....any idea what I could try if it's not the carburetor because I cant drop 250 for a new one right now anyway.
