Hey guys I am having a problem with my front suspension that is costing me lots money.
I drive a 1990 F-250 7.3L 2wd. I have a a freshly aligned front end and new tires on my truck. Even with the new alignment I am getting uneven wear on the front end and it is ruining my tires. My front springs are weak causing my front end to be about 2" lower than factory ride height. I believe this is the cause of my problems because the tires are towed out. I am looking at getting new springs for the front and I have no idea which ones to get. At O'reilley's, my primary parts source, they can't get the springs for a superduty, but the clerk claims that there are some that match my GVRW. I have no idea where to get the springs, or which ones to get, any input would be greatly appreciated.
A couple things spring to mind. Springs will not affect the tow, they affect the camber, the way the top of the tire will lean. Toe in is if the front of the tires are closer than the rear of the tires, as if you turned your feet so your toes pointed at each other.
I would say your alignment wasn't properly done, or something is worn out. Did you check the ball joints? What about the radius arm bushings? Even if the truck sits low because of worn out springs, they should have adjusted the camber to take that into account.
One place to get springs would be a junkyard. Where are you? I see your location is Troy, is that Troy NY?. I have a complete front axle assembly from my F250 including the springs that I'd be willing to sell. Though I'm not positive my springs aren't worn out, I could measure them, but not sure you can tell for certain like that.
I have a 92 F-250 and bought springs from rockauto.com. They cost 89.00 at the time (4 yrs ago) They are Moog variable rate severe duty.
I would also plan on replacing pivot bushing while front end is apart. Raised my truck about 3 inches and is still at that height.
Thanks guys. I've been busy, but I'm back. I'm in Alabama, but I'm just looking for springs. I have a 1991 F250 with a 351W I use as a parts truck. So I have another front end for parts. I want to put the sway bar from it on mine. Do you guys know if that will affect the springs that I need to buy? And I'll be getting the springs you specified. I plan on rebuilding my front end in a few weeks. It is trashed.
Mine has a front sway bar. It connects to a bracket on the bottom of spring mount. Same spring will fit with or without sway bar. Do you have the bracket and sway bar for your front end. I have front and rear sway bars, they make a world of difference.
Yeah. I have the mounts and everything. They are on my parts truck. I am pretty sure that it has a rear sway bar too. I haven't seen the parts truck in a little while. It's at my parents house 200 miles away at the moment. I'll be down there in a few weeks pulling it's sway bar and putting it on my 90 and rebuilding its front end. Thanks for the tip bud, that makes me happy because I'd be mad if i got the wrong springs.
