I have a 1998 Lincoln Navigator 4x4 with the 5.4L.
I usually avg 12.5mpg drivin to work everyday. Bout 10 miles, half back road/highway, other half in town. I also avg 13-14 mpg highway driving.
This is all unloaded. I have never pulled with the navigator. We are lookin to pull a v bottom boat. I think with trailer, boat, and all it weighs 3500-3700 lbs.
What should i expect out of pulling with it. Ive got some hills to get to lake and know itll make it worse. But just lookin for an avg.
I can borrow a buddies powerstroke f350. Which i pulled with last year and couldnt tell a boat was behind it. But the Navi makes it more roomy for the family. I know the f350 probably be less fuel used but tryin to make packing easier.
What would you guys think ill get pulling with the Navigator and will it be fine.
This is what I was getting, 2001 EX 5.4 A4WD. All highway 5500 mile trip with a small flat bed trailer with a Harley, about 1000lbs about 14.5MPG. Two other trips total about the same distance all highway, an inclosed trailer that is 18 inches taller than the Expedition about 2500lbs, about 10.5MPG.
So probably 7-8 with 3500+lbs. Only bout a 70-80 mile trip but half is pretty hilly.
I may try and borrow the powerstroke. But the navi i can just throw stuff in back and not worry bout tieing it down or blowin out. Also a lil bit more room inside. But the powerstroke probably avg 12-15 pulling the boat and wont struggle. So not sure yet. Just trying to figure numbers up.
How many times are you doing this trip? You are agonizing over what amounts to a little more than an hour each way and 40 in fuel. If it is just once I'd just get on with the Navi and forget it. I think your mileage loss is probably an over estimate. Boats are aero friendly, as opposed to Herm's box trailer. I bet you are still over 10. I got around 10 going from CT to NH, a 4 hour ride through lots of hills with a 4k boat and trailer.
