If that was the case, the bottom, beafy spring is just paper weight in this set up. I was always under the impression, that it is the top spring, that is not touching the stop without the load what is factory overload spring. I have one of those on F450. My F250 has 3 springs less than the setup on the picture.
Would say this is more F550 setup.
your correct the top spring is the camper option spring in a F250, a F350 has is stock from the factory, and so does the F450 and F550 trucks. The bottom spring is on ever truck and is mostly for extreme overloaded truck. Ive had my 77 F150 mud truck completely flexed out off road and the springs still don't touch the very bottom spring. i believe the bottom spring is there just encase the top springs crack and the truck falls on the side that the bottom spring could hold the truck long enough for the person to pull over or get the truck fixed
Wow, what a difference. I have a 2012 and going to do the same thing. Did you have to replace the shocks or U Bolts. I have about 1/2 inch of thread remaining on my U bolts. Any advise would be aprriciated. Hate to get half way through the project and find out i need extra parts.
Did not have to replace anything except the the new center pin that cam with the add-a-leaf. I hooked up to my trailer this weekend to go camping. I will post some befor and after pics later today. It only squated about an 1 1/2".
Here is a before & after pic towing my Carson Titan 28ft Toy Hauler. 1st pic there are no ATV's. 2nd pic it is fully loaded 2 ATV's water ect...With the Add-A-Leaf installed the trailer pulled great. Much much less body roll, and no more of that annoying bounce when I hit a dip on the freeway.
This was also the first time I towed in the mountains with the 5 Star Custome Tunes. They performed flawlessly even up the 8% grades in the Big Horn Mts.
:BEFORE & trailer not fully loaded
:AFTER & fully loaded...Some pics of the Big Horn Mts were we camped
