My son took the original 302 in his "83 F-100 and reolaced it with a 351 Cleveland. Does he need to replace the original radiator with a 4 core radiator? The 351 has been running hot.
It wouldn't hurt to oversize the radiator. Especially if the engine is built or he plans on towing or hauling anything. But there could also be another issue that is causing the overheating too, such as an incorrect thermostat.
If he does replace the radiator he may want to consider an aluminum one. I've talked to several people who know and all say that a 2-row aluminum radiator works as well as a 4-row copper/brass unit.
One thing to keep in mind if swapping radiators to a bigger unit designed for a different motor is sometimes they used different size necks for the inlet/outlet on the radiotor. Then the hose don't fit.
The radiator for my 460 has bigger necks then some others....so check the sizes before going through the pain of getting it installed only to find the hoses now don't fit.
I like the idea from Gary...sometimes if you're swapping things around, it's better to get one from Summit (or somewhere) that has all the demensions you need.
