Bragging on the X

Hey guys. I have been on the road - have ya' missed me? LOL. Seriously, I just got back from about a 2700 mile driving experience pulling that new trailer of mine with my vette inside. Can I just say - that Excursion never missed a beat. Before I left, I put a new radio/nav/camera in it. Did I tell you that already? The thing worked like a charm.

I only lost one tenth of a mile in fuel mileage with the trailer empty. Another tenth once I picked up the car. I towed the trailer to Bowling Green, KY putting in a 13 hour day on the second leg of my trip. (First leg was only 5 hours to visit my elderly dad on the way). My accelerator leg/butt cheek was hollerin' at me by the time I got there but I never even knew that trailer was behind me.

The car turned out great and everyone loved it. So, I was proud of that. The truck and trailer combo looked great. So, I was proud of that. And all those car guys went crazy over my car hauler, so I was proud of that.

I was so proud of how well my truck did - I still love it as much as the first day I bought it (no, more I think). Here's a pic of two of the radio, backup camera (which is great for hooking up the trailer alone) and one of the whole reasons I bought the trailer.

SICK Vette

So on the stereo, does it separate out the factory DVD? I am looking for a head unit to install with back up camera, NAV, Sirius, Pandora etc.. but would like to be able to listen to the radio while my kids watch a DVD if I want.

That's why Excursions came with cruise controls ya know!

The pics of your 'Vette messed me up! All I've ever seen posted were the pics of your white ZR1! I saw the red and thought, WTH, she painted it!

Good question. I don't know. I NEVER use my overhead DVD. Mainly because I'm usually the only one in the truck - no backseat riders, or at least none that would watch a movie. I'll have to see. It is pandora, sirius campatible as well as iPod/MP3. Supposedly I should be able to download movies to my iPad and play those as well but I haven't figured that out yet. I know one thing - that back up camera is the s--t!!!!! Since I go to shows alone, that has made hooking up my trailer a piece of cake!!! The radio is a JVC and I swear, my old speakers even sound better with it. I want to get this same system in my vette so when I go back I'll find out about that. I may drop by there today to show Austin my car so if I do, I'll find out and report back.

AND, it does work with the steering wheel buttons but you gotta pay extra for that. But I use those buttons ALLLLL the time.

You were at the Bash????? I picked up the car from Steve on Thursday but didn't get back from his house to BG til late. Then had to go back to Owensboro on Friday for him to do some buffing and put on a coat of glaze. I was with him all day working on the car. It was filthy on the inside due to all the sanding - then back to Bowling Green that night. (I should've stayed in OB instead of BG). Then back to Owensboro on Saturday afternoon after the show to get my truck/trailer and load the vette. Then Sunday left for my 1K mile trip home. That's all I did last week - DRIVE!!!! Good thing I like to drive. And now you know why I got that new system.

Stewart - I'm sorry I gave you heart failure. I would NEVER EVER paint the Z. The red one is my DD. 70K miles on it. It needed some paint work and TLC. So I decided to go wild and bad with it. It is one bad looking machine. It's getting some new and louder exhaust next - maybe a Corsa Sport - I like how that one sounds.

I did use my cruise on and off. You know I had to have that fixed a while back. It was only working intermittently. Cost me a pretty penny too. I don't remember exactly what was wrong but the hubby was like, "do you really need that?" I looked at him like he was nuts - uh? YEAH - duh?

Love my truck!!!!! Just a fine piece of metal to drive around. But I do think I need to either get new seats or get me a pillow for my tush.

Here's a pic of its hood with Jake on it. I'm in a deep love relationship with my vehicles.

Nice Vette. Any pics of the car hauler, or even better a pic of the X & car hauler combo?

What you are looking for is what is commonly referred to as a 'dual zone' system. The dual zone systems tend to be the most expensive in a manufacturers lineup, often with only the most expensive model having that feature. An alternative is to just buy a less expensive model without the 'dual zone' capability that has all the features you want for the front, and then buy a 12V DVD player (they're pretty cheap, often only $50-$100) to put under one of the seats (if your car didn't come with the rear seat entertainment with a DVD player in the headliner above) for the kids to watch a movie at the back using headphones. Or you could get a flip down screen in the back that has a built-in DVD player, where the disc goes into a slot in the side of the screen. That way there are essentially 2 completely separate systems, as opposed to 1 system with 'dual zone' capability.

Thanks - I'm headed to a cars/coffee in Austin in the morning. You should come see all the rides. I won't have this one with me but am bringing the ZR1. It's at Abuelo's Mexican restaurant.

I am typically not a fan of black wheels on black vehicles but I really like the look of yours. What suspension mods have been done to it?
