Love my 5.0. Had a friend comment the other day, who drives a chevy truck BTW, "This truck really sounds good". She has also commented how nice and roomy it is.

I've driven them both too and I could not tell a difference in torque to be honest. I'm sure the difference is much more noticible with a trailer hooked up but I almost never tow with my truck ever, and if I needed to tow something today I would not be crying that my truck didn't have 40 more ft/lbs. It would still tow something better than every other 1/2 ton truck out there on the market.

Just for poops & giggles came to a merge last week, another contractor pulls up to the merge with a brand new 5.7 Hemi Ram (didn't even have the tags yet), he probably had 500-700 lbs in the bed I had roughly the same although my payload looked heaviest. Light changes and he was going to try to "Ace" me out of the merge eventhough my lane had the "right of way" I'm sorry to report the Coyote V8 ate that Hemi up, as a Ford guy I just could not let that happen. I know he was sore about it because after the merge I backed down and he rode my bumper for the next mile 1/2

I have a 5.0 with 3:73 gears and I love it. Nice and powerful and good on gas(as far as full size trucks go). I didn't need the towing power and don't regret my decision at all. One guy I work with got the eco-boost and says that when he tows his boat, he is always into the turbos so it is not much more fuel efficient than my 5.0.

But now that I've had it a while and drove both I'm convinced now I'm happier with the 5.0. This motor is the best sounding factory v8 I've heard. That may just be my opinion though. I loved the power of the ecoboost and the sound of the turbos but to me when people put exhaust on them they sound like crap. It is hard to get a v6 to sound good and when they do it is usually in a hopped up performance car.

the 5.0 sounds really good straight piped too trust me thats what I got on my 11' xlt

Really nothing to do with Ecoboost popularity or the 5.0L not being a good engine. Just a flooded market of fleet turn in trucks.
i got to thinking about this more and more, and it is quite possible that a lot of 11's are showing up on the market as retired rentals.

there's a nice red 11 here in town, with 30k ish miles on it, and a pretty decent price tag .... couldn't figgure it out until i read this and started thinking about it.

most rentals are pretty basic in packages, and this one does not have the towing package or convinence package ... couldnt figgure out why there is a 4x4 without convinence/tow for sale in town, as i've never seen on that stripped down sold at the local dealers ... but as a retired rental bought on auction it makes a lot of sense.

no big deal i guess, but i'd beware any well-priced '11 with 30k ish miles on it, ESPECIALLY one that does not have the factory towing package. there is a very limited group of entities that would purchase that truck, rack the miles up, and sell after a year.... that is, if you are inclined to worry about getting a retired rental vehicle.

anyway ... just a thought .... who in their right mind would buy a pickup without a towing package anyway

Rental vehicles are pretty certain to be abused but likewise well maintained by the book. I would probably pass on a truck that was 12-18 months old and had 30K miles on the clock. As for the tow package, U-haul can install a hitch in a jiffy. Gearing would be my concern if I needed to pull anything.
