Getting ready to replace the water pump (hoses, thermostat) and going to buy a new pump and looking for mfg. recommendations. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
Why ? You can get a brand new Master Pro water pump from O'reilly Auto, with a good warranty, for less than half the price of the Ford Brand. Guess I just have a real problem spending $350 - $400 for a water pump.

My O'reilly pump only lasted about 70k miles. My factory pump lasted almost 280k miles. That was enough motivation for me.
I look at it this way if a OEM lasted 15 years why not buy another one?
Why pay a 150 for one that you may only get 2-5 years out of. Mine has never been changed and had 220k on it

Because of economics .. my pump original lasted 150K so who knows how long one will really last. As of now I have 40K on the new one with no issues. I think some of the problems are with re manufactured pumps (a no no) IMO), and for a few dollars more always go with a new one, jmo.
IIRC there was a thread talking about water pumps not too long ago.. or maybe it was coolant filters..
Either way the subject of the IH designed pump with coolant filter on it was brought up..
Long story short for the price of the OEM replacement you can get from Clay... and a coolant filter kit with mounts hose and filter and all.
It was still like $150 cheaper than just buying the IH pump... not to mention the IH pump you have to change up the hoses and stuff like you said some modification.
I went with the one from Napa... 165 bucks out the door and lifetime warranty...If it fails like mechanical parts do, I will replace it... I don't see the need to spend huge bucks on a water pump...

I used to do that. I got annoyed of always replacing stuff that I got from parts stores, even though they were free parts. I've gotten to a point where my time is worth more to me than saving a few bucks on parts and having to bother with them all the time. That said, I did get a few years out of the O'Reilly pump and t-stat, but I still think the OEM pump is going to be the most reliable choice.
