looking at my first excursion!!!
.
2003 power stroke 7.3 turbo diesel excursion
- Their asking 12,500. KBB is about the same
- 170,000 miles
- 2X4
- Eddie Bauer trim
- 6 disc cd and dvd player
- all power options
- they have owned it for 4 years
I will post some picture when I see it tonight...
Let me know what you think of this one. Any problems with this year I should be looking for? Also what kind of mpg can I expect with this engine?

When I test drove it felt really good and solid. In fact it was really easy to drive like a small suv! Only minor cosmetic problems (leather had small tears, plastic parts on the outside, as far as I could tell. The only bad thing is that they are firm at 12,500. I plan to take it to a mechanic to see how it looks.
The tow mirror weren't electric folding like I had expected
. So every time I go in and out of the garage I will have to fold them.
Take a flashlight and look under the turbo in the very back of the valley and look for oil. Also in the very front under the fuel bowl.

I have put some parts and work into mine just mainly because I like perfect working vehicles. I could have "just drove it". I get around 19-20mpg all by itself, 14.5 pulling the stuff in my sig.
Best year, best motor, best SUV ever! I payed 14K for mine a couple years ago (prices haven't changed on the 7.3).

Definitely check for service records. Find out if there are any leaks, oil, coolant or otherwise.
Also - take a good light and look in the engine valley for (new) oil anywhere (HPOP area and so on.)
It's not a bad price at all, but if you see any leaks, be prepared for some work or have a side kitty (about $3000) set aside for (unexpected) repairs.
First things that needed attention (and or had needed to be replaced on mine)
Kind of reitterating what BuiltFordTough said.
1a) HPOP (non-serviceable) leak repair.
1b) Oil lines/o-rings.
2) Water Pump
3) Leaky Air Breather on Drivers side (that vents into the incoming air housing)
Make sure Cruise Control works - I'm chasing an issue with mine down.
Like I said - not a bad price, but still had to toss some coin at it to get all the leaks fixed.
. Does anyone know the exact name or part #?My truck won't fit in the garage if I don't get out and fold the mirrors. This would make my life a lot easier!
