There are taps on the side of the tranmission that allow you to put a pressure gage for testing. Not sure if you have any gages that can be installed...but would be a good way to see if you have any pressure at all.
No offense, but I would definitely NOT run the engine again until you have been able to sort the converter engagement - it will just chew up the pump & converter hub more.
I think Ken said it earlier. You need to feel the converter dropping through the splines. It will make a definate "thunk" sound whenever it engages. If it didnt you are lucky the bellhousing didnt break whenever you tightened it all up.
The good news is that I have a TC and a pump sitting in my garage that you can have if you need it. They worked fine when they were pulled. Pay for the shipping and they are yours. I have had them listed in the free parts section and nobody has claimed them yet. I belive the TC is for a 4x4 truck and has a factory stall set up.
The odds of you burning something up arent very high at this point because you havent driven it. However, like Ken said if it isnt lined up properly something is going to get chewed up if it already hasnt.
Hey guys, just wanted to give an ending to this thread.
I bought new gears for $16 and I had a bushing from the rebuild kit and installed everything the correct way, and the transmission finally works! Thank you all for your opinions, very much appreciated.
No problem bruno, I didn't realize how heavy that TC was.
And I didn't check the clearances, Stangrcr1, I don't think it mentioned it in my manual but I did compare the gears first, and they looked identical although I didn't have my caliper. And yes the inner gear was cracked on the opposite side as well, but I could not see any damage to the pump and there was just a small bur on the TC that I filed off.
Yes, lots of experience learned here, I've been working on that truck for 3 months or so now, probably ever other weekend or so. Drove it home last night. Nothing like driving a good ole truck like these.
