My wife's 95 F150 (5.8) showed no oil pressure this morning whenever I stomped it or went around a curve. Checked the dipstick and got no reading. I added three quarts to get a reading and pressure stabilized. Oil was changed 3 months ago, and read fine. There is no visible smoke, no leakage on the floor or in the engine compartment. I checked the coolant, and it has good color, with no spots, strange odor or anything. I am going to drain the oil tonight and ensure that I get a good reading on the stick, but am worried about being overfilled now. Any ideas whats going on?
Did you put the oil in yourself or see it go in 3 months ago?
I have heard of people paying someone to do the oil change and the tech did not put the right oil in the engine or enough oil. You would see a cloud of smoke if you burned up 4 or5 qts in 3 months. How many miles between changes?
I did the oil change myself. Put in the 5 quarts, sticked it, then brought it up to full with the extra for the filter. Today, took it to the ford dealer. Good compression in all cylinders, lowest at 135, the rest at 150 or better. Oil pressure at around 58 cold, 40 hot. No blow by in the exhaust or leakage evidence. Maybe valve seals? How long can I go before a rebuild?
Check out "compression test" in the 302 engine forum, I wrote directions for how to do a compression test and what exactly it will tell you.
Primary rig is Green Thunder:

Thats it for now, saving for a stang. Check out my Gallery for a look-see.
No problem. Checked the oil about a week after, then about a month after. It was down a little, but not enough to add another quart. Hadn't checked for about a month after - out of town a lot. It's up now, and we'll be checking it every few days and looking at how the wife drives it. Maybe she's street racing !
