Stupid Spring pack question
Stupid Spring pack question
Ok, I have been given a set of new leaf spring packs, orginally made for a trailer. They are the same width as the original front truck springs and load rate is the same. My question is: Could I break down the new leaf spring packs and use them on my 54 Ford F100 on the front? The only difference would be the main leaf spring (the one of the eyes) on the truck is a bit longer and would need to be reused, other than that the additional springs are the same length as the original and the arch seems to be the same. I would use new eye bolts and clamps. I have rebuilt spring packs before and don't see much difference in swapping in the new springs. Any reasons I couldn't do it? I would love to buy new springs but it really isn't in the budget. Thanks.
if they are the same width and lengths then yes... There are a few things that may make you want to re-thing it though... You mentioned that they are trailer springs... the rate of the springs may be different then the ones for the front... second question is where the center pin locates in the new pack compared to the old ones. Third is that your old top spring would be your weak link in the new frontly assembled front springs and that's the one that I would like to know is the best spring under my truck, as it ties the front end in location. you could contact a spring company if all other factors are ok to make you a new top springs and then rebuild the packs together.
